https://www.huffpost.com/entry/baltimore-dei-mayor-criticism-brandon-scott_n_6604e6ebe4b03f25dbfd765f

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D) responded to some of the bizarre criticisms coming from conservatives following the cargo ship-induced collapse of the city’s Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday morning by saying the term DEI—when applied derogatorily to him—means “duly elected incumbent.”

On MSNBC’s The Reid Out, host Joy Reid prefaced her interview with Scott, who is Black, by calling attention to a tweet describing Scott as “Baltimore’s DEI mayor.” That post, which references the acronym that stands for diversity, equity and inclusion, has generated more than 25 million views, along with a clarifying community note on Twitter.

“I cannot believe I have to say this,” Reid began. “Brandon Scott was elected with 70 percent of the vote in 2020 in a city that is 61 percent Black. So by right-wing logic, a ‘diversity hire’ would have been a white man.”

Reid then asked Scott if he wanted to address the “tomfoolery” of those attacking him “for having the nerve to be Black and also a mayor.” He obliged.

“I know, and we all know, and you know very well that Black men and young Black men in particular have been the bogeyman for those who are racist and think that only straight, wealthy white men should have a say in anything,” Scott said. “We’ve been the bogeyman for them since the first day they brought us to this country. And what they mean by DEI, in my opinion, is Duly Elected Incumbent.”

Scott easily won Baltimore’s mayoral race four years ago, with the next closest candidate, an independent, acquiring just 20 percent of the vote. In the Democratic primary earlier that year, Scott had edged out the city’s scandal-plagued former mayor, Sheila Dixon. Scott is running for re-election in November, while Dixon is again mounting a bid.

Scott added that for his critics, ‘DEI’ is a euphemism.

Jon Stewart responded with characteristic wit Wednesday after a New York Post story, centered around a right-wing commentator’s tweet, tried to depict the Comedy Central host as a hypocrite after he criticized Donald Trump’s justification of bank fraud as a “victimless crime.”

The Post quoted podcaster Tim Pool, who baselessly wondered whether Stewart committed “fraud” when he sold his New York City penthouse for $17.5 million in 2014. The publication based its conclusion on the fact that assessor records from that year showed the property’s estimated market value sitting at $1.882 million. According to the Post, the property’s assessor valuation was under $850,000.

On Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, Stewart explained why Donald Trump’s claim that his bank fraud judgment for inflating property values to secure better loans—and then using lower values for tax purposes—was not a “victimless crime.”

“Money isn’t infinite. A loan that goes to the liar doesn’t go to someone who’s giving a more honest evaluation. So the system becomes incentivized for corruption,” Stewart said then.

These comments, apparently spurred Pool—and later the Post—to look into Stewart’s own past.

“Did [Stewart] commit fraud when he sold his penthouse for $17.5M? NY listed its market value at $1.8M [and assessed value] at around 800k,” Pool asked in a post on Twitter.

But Stewart wasn’t having it.

Jon Stewart is facing online backlash after the comedian opined on air this week that Donald Trump’s civil real estate case for overvaluing his properties was “not victimless” — when it turns out the price of a previous home sale finds Stewart doing the exact same thing, The Post has learned.

On Monday night, Stewart, 61, unpacked Trump’s $454 million appeal bond, calling out experts framing the former president’s New York civil case as not causing direct harm to any individual. “The Daily Show” host rolled a clip of CNN’s Laura Coates interviewing “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary, who commented that the ruling didn’t “go over well” with the real estate industry that was now fretting over the possibility of becoming the next target. Coates responds to O’Leary by highlighting that Trump was found liable for falsifying business records in the second degree, issuing false financial statements, insurance fraud and conspiracy, all due to asset inflation. “Everything that you just listed off is done by every real estate developer everywhere on Earth in every city. This has never been prosecuted,” O’Leary replied.

Tfw Kosovo is closer to joining the EU than Serbia

https://www.euronews.com/2023/04/25/kosovo-takes-historic-step-towards-joining-council-of-europe

Kosovo took a step towards joining the Council of Europe on Monday, amid fiery opposition from Serbia.

According to AFP, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe "transmitted for opinion" Kosovo's membership application to its Parliamentary Assembly, though it is unknown when this verdict will be delivered.
The Council of Europe is an international organisation founded after World War II to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.

It established the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which protects the rights of every citizen within the 46 states that signed up.

Kosovo Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz welcomed the decision stating on Facebook their candidacy was approved with a two-thirds majority.

"For our new state, today's decision marks a historic step, perhaps the most important since our independence", she said, but warned the accession process remained "long and difficult".

>Democratic candidate won in landslide with 62 percent of the vote in a district Trump carried in 2020 and revealing that the Republican's war of women's rights is still extremely unpopular.

https://www.al.com/news/huntsville/2024/03/alabama-democrat-marilyn-lands-running-on-ivf-ruling-reportedly-flips-republican-house-seat.html

Democrat Marilyn Lands defeated Republican Teddy Powell in a special election Tuesday night for a state House seat in north Alabama that drew national attention.

Lands, a licensed professional counselor, flipped the seat from red to blue by besting Powell, a Madison city councilman, 62 percent to 38 percent with 100percent of the precincts in District 10 reporting, according to unofficial results posted on the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office website.

The race drew national interest against the backdrop of the controversial Alabama State Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos are considered children under state law.

The seat became vacant when ex-Rep. David Cole resigned after pleading guilty to illegal voting.

Lands, who lost to Cole in 2022, made the ruling a focus of her campaign for the district covering parts of Madison County.

“We need to continue to protect at this point where we are at with the right to contraception,” she told the Huntsville Times Lede.

>RFK Jr. VP is clearly meant to leech off Biden and the only one publicly saying it's a good one is Trump himself.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4559103-libertarians-confused-rfk-jr-vp-pick/

The chair of the Libertarian National Committee said its members are “confused” by Robert F. Kennedy’s Jr. vice presidential pick, which he announced Tuesday.

“I think that a lot of libertarians are a little bit confused over why he chose Nicole Shanahan. I’m sure she’s a lovely person, but she doesn’t necessarily fit into alignment with any of our views,” Libertarian National Committee Chair Angela McArdle said on NewsNation’s “The Hill.”

Kennedy announced tech attorney and entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan as his pick for vice president during an event in Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday. When pressed further on why Libertarians are unsure about Kennedy’s choice, McArdle noted that she had supported President Biden and now-Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

“So I’m really unsure how she’s going to fit in with the Libertarian Party. You know, I’m anxious to hear about it,” she added.

Kennedy switched to an independent White House bid in the fall after first launching his campaign in the Democratic presidential primary against President Biden. During remarks Tuesday, Shanahan said she will leave the Democratic Party.

In recent months, Kennedy has fueled speculation that he will join the Libertarian Party’s ticket for the presidential election in November. When asked about conversations McArdle has had with Kennedy, she emphasized that any Libertarian presidential candidate would need to make an effort to get the support of the party.

A prominent Georgia state Republican, who has repeatedly claimed the 2020 election was stolen, was found to have voted illegally nine times.

Brian Pritchard, the first vice chairman of the state Republican Party, violated state election laws when he voted illegally in nine elections from 2008 to 2010, a Georgia judge ruled Wednesday. At the time he cast those votes, Pritchard was still on probation after being convicted of a forgery felony in Pennsylvania in 1996.

Georgia is one of 15 states that bars people from voting until they have completed their sentence, including probation. Judge Lisa Boggs ordered Pritchard to pay a $5,000 fine for his illegal votes. He will also receive a public reprimand.

Pritchard told Boggs he believed he had completed his sentence when he cast the illegal votes. He said he was not aware that the Pennsylvania criminal court had extended his probation until 2011 for allegedly failing to pay $38,000 in restitution.

The confusing nature of the U.S. sentencing system is a real issue when it comes to voting rights. Multiple people, particularly Black people, have been charged for trying to vote while ineligible due to felony convictions. But Boggs said she did not believe this was the case for Pritchard.

In her ruling, Boggs wrote that she did not find Pritchard’s defense credible because he had appeared in court multiple times while his probation was extended. So he should have known he had not completed his sentence.

Pritchard, like many Republicans, has repeatedly insisted that the 2020 election was fraudulent, tipped in Joe Biden’s favor by thousands of illegal votes. No one, including investigators hired by former President Donald Trump, has found any evidence to back up this conspiracy.

Trump evokes more anger and fear from Democrats than Biden does from Republicans, AP-NORC poll shows

Many Americans are unenthusiastic about a November rematch of the 2020 presidential election. But presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump appears to stoke more anger and fear among Americans from his opposing party than President Joe Biden does from his.

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that Democrats are more likely to report feeling “fearful” or “angry” about the prospects of another Trump term than Republicans are about the idea of Biden remaining in the White House.

The emotional reaction Trump inspires may work in his favor too, though, since the poll also found that Republicans are more excited about the prospect of a Trump win than Democrats are about a Biden victory.

Seven in 10 Democrats say the words “angry” or “fearful” would describe their emotions “extremely well” or “very well” upon a Trump victory. A smaller majority of Republicans – 56% – say the same about a Biden triumph. About 6 in 10 Democrats cite both emotions when contemplating a Trump victory. Again, that exceeds the roughly 4 out of 10 Republicans who said they would feel both angry and scared about Biden prevailing

Extra extra! Read all about it! Republicans are losing the war against Hunter Biden, only 56% of Americans believe Joe Biden was involved in Hunter Biden's business dealings!
https://www.newsweek.com/republicans-are-losing-war-against-hunter-biden-1884059
Republicans Are Losing the War Against Hunter Biden
Republicans appear to be losing in the court of opinion when it comes to their impeachment effort against President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Polls show that across the political spectrum, fewer Americans say the president was involved in his son's business dealings. A Harvard CAPS/Harris survey in March found that 56 percent said that Biden "helped and participated in Hunter Biden's business," a 3 percent decrease from February's survey.

The downtick was seen among all voters, with the greatest change being with Republicans. Between February's and March's polls, 5 percent of GOP voters switched to the position that Biden did not participate in his son's business dealings. In the March survey, 23 percent of Republicans agreed with that sentiment, compared with 63 percent of Democrats and 47 percent of independents
House Republicans appear to be taking note. Representative James Comer, who chairs the Oversight Committee, which has been leading the investigation into the Biden family, has recently shifted away from any prospects of impeaching the president.

After last week's impeachment hearing, Comer told Newsmax that while he would vote to impeach Biden, "the best path to accountability is criminal referrals," suggesting he would lay the groundwork for a future Donald Trump Justice Department to pursue such referrals instead of trying to impeach Biden now. Then, on Monday, the Kentucky Republican's campaign sent out a fundraising email bolstering the idea of backing away from an impeachment effort.

>Yeah that's what the Ukrainians said when he did it, and he threw a tantrum and threatened to leave without giving them the aid money.
That's because withholding aid was the official position of the U.S. government, not Biden. Biden doesn't have the power to withhold aid.

>Nice try rewording it for inaccuracy, is that a strawman I see? No, he demanded Shokin be fired or Ukraine wouldn't get the aid.
Yes. That was the official position of the U.S. government. The EU was apart of these conversations as well. Joe Biden, as a representative of the U.S. government, was sent to relay that message.

>Shokin, who was at the time investigating Burisma, where Hunter had accepted a job he wasn't qualified for aside from his family name and was using to give kickbacks to daddy.
Shokin was never investigating Burisma. Hunter being qualified for the job is a matter of your opinion, not fact, and there's zero evidence he gave any of that money to Joe Biden. Everything you believe is a conspiracy with no evidence to support it.

>Yeah, Biden is kinda retarded. The rest of your post is all in the same vein, assertions that our eyes are deceiving us and we shouldn't listen to what the various Bidens themselves have said. Hang yourself.
I'm sorry that reality hurts your feelings, anon. There's nothing I can do about that. There's a saying - to people who understand nothing, everything seems like a conspiracy. The fact that you think the VP has the power to manipulate aid and fire whoever he wants speaks to your vast ignorance.

A California judge on Wednesday recommended the disbarment of John Eastman, calling to revoke the law license of one of former President Donald Trump’s top allies in his failed last-ditch gambit to subvert the 2020 election.

Judge Yvette Roland, who presided over months of testimony and argument about the basis of Eastman’s fringe legal theories, ruled that the veteran conservative attorney violated ethics rules — and even potentially criminal law — when he advanced Trump’s efforts to overturn the election results based on weak or discredited claims of fraud.

Eastman plans to appeal Roland’s decision to a panel of judges, an interim step before the matter reaches the state Supreme Court. But while his appeal is pending, the ruling forces his law license into “inactive” status, meaning he can no longer practice law in California.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2024/03/28/brian-pritchard-georgia-illegal-voting/73135511007/

Oops just kidding. It's actually a republican.

A judge has found Georgia Republican Party official Brian Pritchard guilty of illegally voting nine times over several years. Pritchard has falsely asserted Democrats had stolen the 2020 election through fraud.

Administrative Law Judge Lisa Boggs wrote in her Wednesday decision that Pritchard, the Georgia GOP’s first vice chairman, violated state election laws by voting while on probation for forgery and other felonies, and that his explanations were neither "credible or convincing."

Pritchard must pay a $5,000 fine and $375.14 in investigative costs incurred by the court. Boggs also ordered that Pritchard “be publicly reprimanded for his conduct” by the State Election Board, which sought the sanctions against him.

On Thursday, Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called on Pritchard to “resign immediately or be removed” from his Georgia GOP position because he “voted ILLEGALLY nine times while serving out his probation for FELONY check forgery.”

“The Republican Party is the party of election integrity,” Greene said on X, formerly Twitter, and “our state party should be the leading voice on securing our elections.”
>>
Forged checks, and claims of a stolen election
Pritchard, a conservative talk show host, has claimed on his FetchYourNews.com show that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent, echoing claims by former President Donald Trump, who lost in the Peach State and nationwide to Democrat Joe Biden. Trump and 14 co-defendants are currently facing charges of illegally conspiring to overturn the result in Georgia, while four co-defendants have pleaded guilty.

Investigations consistently have found no evidence of mass fraud in 2020. But in her 25-page ruling, Boggs found that Pritchard committed voter fraud himself.

Boggs cited certified records from an Allegheny County, Pennsylvania court, which showed Pritchard pleaded guilty in 1996 to felony fraud and theft involving $38,000 in forged checks relating to a construction project and that he was ordered to pay that same amount in restitution. Felons in Georgia lose their right to vote until they complete probation or parole.

Evidence presented in court by two senior officials of the state attorney general’s office indicated Pritchard’s probation had been extended until 2011, but he registered to vote in 2008 and voted in nine elections between then and 2010.

Pritchard testified at an evidentiary hearing in February that he didn’t knowingly commit fraud and that he believed his status as a felon who is ineligible to vote had ended more than two decades ago. He also said he believed his criminal sentence had been converted to a civil judgment, according to a copy of Boggs’ decision.

In an earlier proceeding before the State Election Board, which referred Pritchard’s case to the Georgia attorney general’s office for investigation, his attorney said Pritchard was unaware he was considered a felon when he registered and voted in Georgia.
>>
'He should have known'
The judge found Pritchard's explanations to be lacking in credibility, noting that “to accept that the Respondent’s grasp of legal proceedings was so unsophisticated that he did not understand the basic terms of his probation in 1996 … this Court would need to disregard (Pritchard’s) self-described experience as a businessman handling complex projects as well as million-dollar contracts and budgets.”

“Based on the above, and upon careful consideration of the evidence in its totality the Court does not find the explanations credible or convincing,” Boggs wrote. “At the very least, even if the Court accepts he did not know about his felony sentences, the record before this Court demonstrates that he should have known.”

Pritchard's fine includes $500 for each of the nine times he voted illegally and another $500 for illegally registering to vote in 2008. He can appeal the decision.

Neither Pritchard nor his lawyer, George Weaver Jr. could be reached for immediate comment.

‘I’ve not done anything wrong here’
Pritchard was defiant about his voting record back in December 2022 when he qualified to run in a special election for the state House seat previously held by Speaker David Ralston, who had died the previous month.

“I’ve not done anything wrong here,” Pritchard said at the time, asserting that his sentence had ended long ago and his rights had been restored, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. “I guess if you’re apprehending public enemy No. 1, here I am.”

Pritchard has said on his show that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen,” the Atlanta newspaper wrote. It said he also had criticized Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Republican Attorney General Chris Carr for being “complicit” in Biden’s victory in Georgia.

>>
Jason Shepherd, a former vice chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, told USA TODAY that the judge's decision is ironic given Pritchard's constant claims of election fraud.

Pritchard, he said, "has rapidly risen in the ranks of the Georgia Republican Party and has built a media empire of literally tens of dozens of followers by spouting conspiracy theories about stolen elections and rampant voter fraud from thousands of illegal voters, despite being investigated himself for illegally voting."

Shephard, who writes the Peach Pundit political column, said the accusations of Pritchard's voter fraud "have been well known long before he became the second highest officer in the Georgia Republican Party."

"He should have never been elected and he has now needs to go...and sooner rather than later," Shephard said. "If (Georgia GOP) Chairman Josh McKoon doesn't have a resignation by the end of the day, I don't see how anyone can take the Georgia Republican Party seriously."

‘Remorseless’ Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison — as judge rips him as power-obsessed scammer

A Manhattan judge ripped Sam Bankman-Fried as a “remorseless” scammer obsessed with political power as he sentenced the fallen crypto mogul to 25 years in prison Thursday — five months after he was found guilty of stealing more than $8 billion from customers of his now-bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

Judge Lewis Kaplan said the 32-year-old convicted fraudster “presented himself as the good guy” all in favor of “appropriate regulation of the crypto industry” — but it was just an “act.”

“He did it because he wanted to be a hugely, hugely political influential person in this country,” Kaplan said, blasting him as “remorseless.”

“He knew it was wrong, he knew it was criminal, he regrets that he made a very bad bet about the likelihood of being caught,” he continued, as Bankman-Fried stood in front of him with his hands clasped tightly at his waist.

>Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted Monday that “radical Islamists” were behind the massacre of nearly 140 people at a Moscow concert hall last Friday – but he still pointed to Ukraine as the hidden hand behind the terror attack.

>"The question that arises is who benefits from this?" Putin said at the Kremlin during a video conference with leaders of Russia's security forces. "We know by whose hand the crime against Russia and its people was committed. But what is of interest to us is who ordered it."

>Four attackers stormed the Crocus City Hall in Moscow last Friday night, raking gunfire across hundreds of people there to see the Soviet-era rock band Picnic, in the deadliest attack inside Russia in two decades. The death toll was raised to 139 on Monday, Alexander Bastrykin, chairman of the state Investigative Committee, said.

>Russia has no designs on any NATO country and will not attack Poland, the Baltic states or the Czech Republic but if the West supplies F-16 fighters to Ukraine then they will be shot down by Russian forces, President Vladimir Putin said late on Wednesday.
>Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has triggered the deepest crisis in Russia's relations with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
>Speaking to Russian air force pilots, Putin said the U.S.-led military alliance had expanded eastwards towards Russia since the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union but that Moscow had no plans to attack a NATO state.
>"We have no aggressive intentions towards these states," Putin said, according to a Kremlin transcript released on Thursday.
>"The idea that we will attack some other country - Poland, the Baltic States, and the Czechs are also being scared - is complete nonsense. It's just drivel."
>The Kremlin, which accuses the U.S. of fighting against Russia by supporting Ukraine with money, weapons and intelligence, says relations with Washington have probably never been worse.
>Asked about F-16 fighters which the West has promised to send to Ukraine, Putin said such aircraft would not change the situation in Ukraine.

I hear the small penis is typical amongst Russians. They cover that up by threating with the nukes. Its prob why Putin and Trump are best friends, each have big ego & small penis.
