Go /p/ro:
• Please post images that are JPG format and ideally smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side.
• Expect to be judged harshly. Learn to deal with it.

Want:
• We come here for photos, so post yours as often as possible, even if "image unrelated" to your text.
• "Flickr/500px/Tumblr/Facebook/Portfolio" threads are for critique and networking.
• Use "Recent Photos" threads if you are shy or only want to post a couple of photos.
• Shared raw files which we can collectively edit for discussion of post-processing techniques, are encouraged.
• Use the Catalog to consolidate similar topics (photographic themes, images or technical gear threads).

Do not want:
• Go to /wsr/ or /r/ for specific Photoshop requests.
• Gear threads are discouraged, but identified as necessary. Many users simply hide these threads.

Previous thread >>4302680

/fgt/ daily reminder (courtesy by anon): one stop per decade is (generally) bullshit
>negative film ages better than positive
>black and white better than color
>slow films better than fast
>storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years
>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited
>slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled.
>if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process

Forgot to post another pic taken on a different 50 year old camera. Face it medium format, sucks for hand holding, unless in bright sunlight. I say this as someone who shoots 90% MF.

Not necessarily. Its just that heavy cameras in general suck for handheld. Mamiya 6 or rolleiflex is great for handheld. Doesnt matter the format, although the larger the format the more demanding it becomes to get the absolute best quality you can from it.

Note that I live in euroland so everything is 20% more expensive.
It was the same price as a R7 body, a bit more than 1/2 the price of a R6 Mk2

I doubt I'll shoot lots of low light images for the IBIS to make sense of the extra premium. Not sure.
I've read about the drawbacks of EFCS banding/worse looking bokeh, still don't think it's worth to spend 1k more for it, after all I'm an amateur that will shoot photos on his trip from Fes to Agadir. It feels light years ahead of the entry-level 10+ y/o DSLR my father had. If he hasn't sold it I am gonna use his lenses.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase and if I get more seriously into photography I'll just buy the latest and greatest mid-range body in a few years
>>
>>4305006
You could have always gotten a sony a7iii

It's not like your canon is weather sealed any better, their WR is reportedly less thorough outside of the r6/r5/r3 just like the non-L lenses are totally non-sealed.

I bought a D700 off ebay some time in 2019ish before the youtube people made it inflate in price.

I don't see a reason to upgrade, everything seems like diminishing returns. Don't need any more megapixels, autofocus is fast enough, build quality is great, body is a tank, color science is great, great lens ecosystem.

What are honestly the advantages of upgrading? More muh megapixels? I don't see the point when this thing is perfect. Even the newest hottest most basedest 2024 shit is like 10% better at most, and thats in niche scenarios.

>the tamron 24-70 is ok, but not great
It also doesn't work right with the FTZ, which is (partly) why the used prices on these fell a lot in recent years.
For DSLR definitely a great bang for the buck right now.

It depends on the model.
I see 5D Mark II's going for about $200.

Plenty of boomers have bills to pay too.
I've bought a lot of camera stuff by offering two-thirds or less of what the list price was.

Probably because canon DSLRs are junk with mft-tier sensors. Like the 5dsr, 50mp? Yes. Don't bother going over ISO 100.

All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door.
Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

IT'S HAPPENING

>tldr; a company is modifying a gfx 100ii and atomos recorder into a combined box camera with a "medium format" (43mm wide) sensor, and fuji is supporting them
>>
>>4304919
Why wouldn’t Fuji support them? It’s getting people to buy Fuji cameras. Only canon likes crippling their users.
>>
>>4304942
I should've said showcased. Supporting isn't unusual. But showcasing it is.
Same way that blackmagic supports the nexus g1 but would never display it at their booth. It's arguably competition. It somewhat undermines the company's original product by saying that they can do it better. And it isn't developed by the original company so the company won't want to be associated with any potential pitfalls/issues that arise from the modification.
It's like every camera manufacturer shares lens mount designs (except when canon's being weird) but you'd never see sony showing off a Tamron lens in their booth.
-But I get that in this case it makes a lot of sense since fuji don't really have a cinema line and as far as I'm aware they don't make box cameras at all.

Then tell me why the GFX bodies can't autofocus with H series lenses.

It's my birthday. I wanna treat myself to a telephoto lens mainly for landscapes for my OM-4Ti.
Since I'm on a budget I'm deciding between the 85-250mm f/5.0 zoom and the 300mm f/4.5 or 200mm f/4.0.
Any thoughts? I've never shot landscapes with a telephoto before and never owned such a long prime either. Actually I don't own any zoom lenses anymore since I've sold my digital camera years ago.

I'm not able to find an actual canon brand one. Eventually I plan to upgrade my T6i body to a mirrorless, maybe then I'll be able to use one without an optical element in it.

I have the samyang 12mm aps-c. and the 20mm sony pancake. The 12 usually too wide or more rarely not wide enough but you can crop to solve the first issue. I like it because reasonably small but I also have the 20mm for extreme pocketability. I prefer 12 rather than 20mm because you cannot uncrop the 20mm.
If you have a decent camera, and 24 MP are already enought, you can just compose with the crop in mind and call the day. If you are a pro you can do the same with hi-res sensors.

It really depends by your subjects, but in my experience using wide angles you are often very restricted in your composition and moving around don't really helps much. My go to solution is to find the best spot for my composition in termis of light and contrast (a huge "problem" of wide angle lens is extreme contrast you can have in the frame) and then I crop. I almost never print bigger than a A3 format.

Funfact: more often than not I ended up cropping my picture based on the final use of the photo, frame arrangment, architecture... more than purelly photographical approach. When you have to bring your pics outside of the screen in the real world some moments to think about the final object you are creating is important, and 2/3 is no always the best format.

Thanks for the inputs guys.
I've slept on it and decided you are all massive faggots so here is the Zuiko 300mm f/4.5 (multicoated version of course).

The Zuiko MC 200mm f/4 will arrive later this week.

>that tripod
Lense looks sick, I still think you should have got the zoom, but at least you didn't do what that other retard did and take Sugar's advice to buy a 70's 3rd party zoom just because it was commissioned by USA.

Holy shit, I found a Soligor telephoto at an estate sale for 10$. I was convinced it was some junk lens. I tried taking it apart to clean it but I ended fucking it up badly and throwing it away. This was me being a tard 15 years ago...

Standard canvas for paintings is 11x14 to 20x24 btw
And paintings have full detail at every distance no weird scaling shit, you see texture not blur and ken rockwell is not over your shoulder insisting that you stand further away, rather you are encouraged to appreciate the artists technique and purposeful inclusion of the smallest elements

To these standards it was not until 2013ish that digital eclipsed what sheet film can do. Thankfully a 5dsR is $800.
>>
>>4304931
but i usually zoom the pic to see details, not all the pictures are viewed in the frame that its supposed

>shoot against window

Fucking with sliders isn't gonna fix that is it, I'd have to use masking and shit. Kinda hard when there's a person sticking in front of the window.

which more modern Olympus Digital Cameras would be good ones to consider getting, I'm trying to find some that would be great for things like Wildlife, Nature, landscapes, night, theatre and Street Photography.

Yes, exactly. There are improvements compared to the EM1 mark III, like the autofocus and the sensor.
>>
>>4304034
ah right okay then specifically which one did you mean?

I have an old jpeg thats corrupted that im trying to open. The last 6 apps i've tried display the pic, but either output it as a tiny thumbnail, or heavily watermark the image to the point of ruining it.

Does anyone know of an app that's free that is actually free to fix busted jpegs? Thanks, anons
>>
r-photo is one of the better free options
most free options in this category kinda suck
>>
>>4304405
unless I'm retarded, that appears to be an app to recover deleted stuff. I'm looking for something that fix's jpegs that are corrupted, not deleted. That, or I'm too stupid to use it properly???

yes

I debated that before posting, but it seems like the photog anons should have some experience in this realm. Besides, /g/ is too broad. If you guys can't come back with anything, I'll try over there...
