I've just finished My Girl by Yumeka Sumomo. It's about a young man (Masamune) finding out he has a young daughter (Koharu) after his ex-girlfriend (Youko) unexpectedly dies. Both father and daughter have to learn how to navigate this new world and to move on after tragedy.I liked it a lot, it's relatively short and hits it's emotional notes well but it has two massive flaws, the child characters and the sense of needless drama. The children are very cute but they don't really act like kids. They flip between wise and immature constantly and I feel like the author used them too much to move the plot along. The drama around Youko leaving Masamune is pretty stupid, I understand it was needed for basic premises to work but it just leaves you frustrated. Unlike other similar manga such as Amaama to Inazuma and Chichi to Hige-Gorilla to Watashi, it lacks that bittersweetness that they have but gains a heavy sense of melancholy that hangs over the whole manga. The defining theme of My Girl is unfinished business and the things that where never said after losing the one they love the most. One of the defining feature is that the story is laser focused on the perspective of both Masamune and Koharu without much comedy to lighten up the mood. The ending leaves a lot unsaid but feels satisfying. Masamune and Koharu both begin on the path to moving forward with their lives.

The final episode is airing tonight. It's time to say goodbye to Tomozaki, Hinami, Mimimi, Fuuka, Tama, Yuzu, and all the friends we made along the way. What were they thinking with ending at the Fuuka end when the LN might not even end with a Fuuka end?

>when the english subs fucking need a translationthis is why we fucking need TL notes goddamnit.
>>264730036I don't presume to have the most diversified vocabulary and I'm far from a sesquipedalian in my parlance but one should have the mental acumen to be able to apprehend the meaning of words outside their own lexicon either by context or showing the initiative to look things.
>>264729943>>264729967It's a literary reference. She's calling him a philander basically. Lothario is like a more obscure Casanova.
I remember a long time ago comics used to intentionally have their characters speak in a far more dramatic and grandiloquent fashion, when asked about why he did it Stan said he believed kids were smart enough to figure things out based on context clues or would enjoy looking things up to expand their vocabulary. You're dumber than a child, OP. Excelsior.
>>264730100It's poor and awkward word choice because you don't just drop it in casual conversation, but that doesn't mean it requires a translation note to understand. Most people have learned it in a vocab test in middle school or early high school.

>>264730035Pucci was a great villain and made a great final part but the mid section of the story was mostly a slog to read through.Part 5 was more solid all the way through albeit with a weaker final villain.
>>264726991it being an adventure setting, memorable and fun characters. absolutely insane action and unpredictable moments. consistent build up to climax (except that very final moment, feel like a weird epilogue)

is SAO an isekai? It's almost the same shit as any isekai except that it's a video game, he still has to discover the universe and shit and can't get back. That's basically an isekai with VR as an excuse, rather than reincarnation or alternate dimension. Why do many people seem to disagree? Also I think it's following SAO that there was a clear isekai boom, still ongoing today. (not saying there weren't isekai, called-so or not, before that)(I say SAO but I mean any of the similar shit)
>>264724761>>264724660What if at the end of an isekai the MC wakes up from a dream and he was just sleeping all along? (dumb idea)Or what if we think it's a guy projected in another world but there's a reveal that he was in a game all along (against his will possibly but let's say here and there along the road there are hints that he's actually in a game and at the end he gets out)? The storytelling would basically be the same as "another world" rather than a "game". Video game world is just a different excuse/setting as "reincarnation", "alternate dimension", etc, is what I'm saying here, the type of storytelling you get is almost the same (even if isekai like to play on the discovery of the world and "bringing modern knowledge" more than vidya type but it's not impossible).I feel like you guys views are too narrow
>>264720130yes it started the entire isekai craze
>>264720130Besides the part where they exit the game and play other video games.

>>264720130Yes. Now that we have the official English definition!https://www.oed.com/dictionary/isekai_n?tab=meaning_and_use&tl=true>A Japanese genre of science or fantasy fiction featuring a protagonist who is transported to or reincarnated in a different, strange, or unfamiliar world. Also: an anime, manga, video game, etc., in this genre.
